More details released on man accused of driving drunk, killing another man in December crash
More details are being released about a man being held responsible for a deadly December crash.
Prosecutors previously charged Isaiah Black, 20-years-old with a DWI and involuntary manslaughter after a man was killed in a crash on Route B near Academy Road.
On the day of the crash, two lanes of Route B had to be closed. Troopers said the crash happened when Black crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with another car.
Thomas Willems, 34, died in the crash.
Troopers said crashes of this nature can be prevented. Sgt. Scott White said, “What is sad about drunk driving offenses and these drunk driving crashes that we work, is that they are completely preventable. They do not have to happen. They happen not because someone makes a mistake but because someone makes a choice.”
Traffic reports show 157 people died in crashes related to alcohol in 2017. Drugs also contributed to 84 traffic deaths.
According to public court records, Black has been previously charged with assault, careless and imprudent driving and failing to appear in court.
Black appeared in court on Thursday for his involvement in the December crash. He is scheduled to be back in court on April 3 for a case review.
