Rep. Jay Barnes gives update on special committee investigating Greitens
UPDATE 4:35 pm: During the press conference, Rep. Barnes said that the committee has spoken to a number of witnesses, but said they are expected to talk with more.
Barnes said a court reporter has been at all five committee hearings over the past two weeks. He said those transcriptions would be released once the committee has completed its investigation, which he said is on schedule to be done in the 40-day time period.
“We are on track, I believe, to release a report of some sort,” he said. “And again, let me put the asterisk on that statement. The committee may determine that we need to do more fact finding before we release a report.”
Barnes said the committee has requested information from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s office, which filed the felony invasion of privacy charge against Gov. Greitens.
“There’s an order in that case not to release the information to third parties and we may choose to go down that path in the future to get that information, but we have not gone down that path to this point,” he said.
Barnes said the committee will meet again Friday Mar. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
