Victim requires reconstructive surgery after couple breaks into his house, assaults him

A couple has been charged with burglary and stealing after they were accused of breaking into a house and assaulting the man inside.

According to the probable cause statement, a man awoke to another man punching him in the face.

The victim told officers he recognized the man as Dominick Vernon and saw a woman running around known to be Vernon’s girlfriend.

Camden County deputies said the victim suffered serious physical injuries to his eye socket, neck, nose, face and jaw and had to be taken to the hospital. The victim said he was also choked by Vernon, severely enough to leave bruising.

According to the probable cause statement, the victim will require facial reconstruction surgery due to the severity of his injuries.

Officers later identified Vernon’s girlfriend as Tehya Lewis and were able to connect the couple with the burglary.

The victim said he believed the only reason the couple entered the house was to attack or kill him and steal his money.

Vernon and Lewis were accused of taking the victim’s cellphone valued at $650 and $300 in cash.

According to the probable cause statement, Vernon has an extensive history of violence and is only 17-years-old. He was also charged with assault in the incident.
