More details released on committee formed to investigate Greitens

On Monday, House Speaker Todd Richardson announced a committee to investigate Governor Eric Greitens after he was indicted on a felony invasion of privacy charge.

The indictment stems from the 2015 extramarital affair to which the governor has admitted.

On Tuesday, Cole County Representative Jay Barnes was named the head of the investigative committee. The committee is comprised of four Republicans and two Democrats.

The investigation committee will have subpoena power to compel witnesses to testify before the panel. First, the House must pass a resolution to give the members of the committee the authorization to go forward.

Rep. Sara Walsh said she agreed with the investigation, “It’s important for us to be able to go through the steps, go through an orderly and fair fashion. As the speaker mentioned to us, it’s a fact-finding mission. So they’ll be going through the facts. I’m reserving my judgment ’til we actually see the facts. I think that is very important.”
