Man charged with making terrorist threat at Waynesville High School

Waynesville police arrested Nickolas Mercado on Monday after he was accused of making a terroristic threat.

According to the probable cause statement, Mercado went into a Waynesville High School classroom and said, “I am a school shooter,” and “I am going to shoot you all.”

Mercado was accused of making the comments while holding a banana in his hand like a gun, pointing the banana at several students and making the gesture as if firing a pistol at them.

Several students reported Mercado to the school security officers. The students said they felt threatened and were in fear of Mercado.

Mercado was charged with making a terroristic threat in the first degree. His bond was set at $20,000.
