A marginal risk for severe storms into the evening
WEDNESDAY: It’s another mild afternoon across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures are expecting to climb into the lower 60s. Cloudy skies will be with us through the day, as southwesterly flow aloft tracks moisture into the region. Areas north of I-70 will likely stay in the 50s all day long, with the better chance for 60s along and south of 70. Late this afternoon and into the evening, Mid-Missouri is under a marginal threat for severe weather. This provides for the chance for a strong to severe thunderstorm or two to develop as we head into the evening. Thanks to a warm front lifting north and a cold front tracking to the west, we’ll see the potential for a few strong storms. The biggest threat looks to be isolated hail, but we can’t rule out some strong winds as well. Storms could bring an additional quarter to half inch of rain. The greatest threat for any strong storms arrives after 4 PM and quiets down as we head into the overnight hours.
TONIGHT: After midnight tonight light rain showers will continue, but the severe threat ends. Winds will shift out of the northwest dropping temperatures towards 40 degrees by morning. Any rain will exit the area by 8 AM.
EXTENDED: Shortly after the rain ends clouds will begin to clear leading to a fairly sunny Thursday. It will be cooler and windy tomorrow with northwest winds gusting to 25 mph at times as temperatures remain in the upper 40s to near 50. We’ll start warming up again Friday and into the weekend with highs reaching the upper 50s by Saturday. Sunday clouds will build back into the area with a slight shower chance in the morning but a better chance of rain arrives as we head into Monday. For now it’s looking to just be scattered showers, but can’t rule out the chance for a few thunderstorms. Watch ABC 17 News for the newest forecast and check back here for updates.
