Phelps County deputies arrest man accused of sending threatening emails to woman
A Phelps County man has been charged with stalking and harassment after he was accused of sending threatening emails.
Phelps County deputies said they were dispatched to the 200 block of Patton Street on Feb. 20 to check the well being of the juvenile children. When they arrived at the residence, a woman advised officers that Jay Lawson had been harassing her by calling law enforcement to check the well being of her kids.
The woman said she had filed for an ex parte against Lawson and wanted no further contact with him.
Deputies found Lawson and told him he could be arrested if he made contact with the female victim.
Two days later, officers were dispatched to the woman’s house for reports of harassing emails. The woman told deputies she had received multiple emails from Lawson saying that he wanted to see his children, even if it meant he would get shot. He also sent an email telling the woman that she knew what he was capable of doing and that he was about to the point of snapping.
The woman told officers she had not slept well in days because she was afraid of Lawson and did not know what he was going to do.
Deputies called Lawson and told him that he could not go to the residence. Lawson was accused of becoming angry and yelling that he would go to the residence and the deputies could not stop him.
Lawson is currently in the Phelps County Jail.
