Another round of freezing rain likely into the night

WEDNESDAY: Its a chilly afternoon across Mid-Missouri, as temperatures are struggling to climb into the 30s. Despite the peaks of sunshine we’ll see today, any freezing rain that accumulated yesterday will remain in place. The system that brought the freezing rain has tracked south of Mid-Missouri, but another wave of precipitation will lift from the southeast into the day. This could bring a glaze of freezing rain to areas near interstate 44 into the day. The best chance for any freezing rain arrives as we head into the night and early Thursday morning. Temperatures today will top out in the lower 30s, with a northeast breeze up to 15 mph

TONIGHT: It will be a cold night across Mid-Missouri with freezing rain and sleet building into the area. The onset of precipitation should start of as sleet, before changing over to freezing rain as we head into the late evening hours. With temperatures hovering near freezing for most of the night it will be tricky to pinpoint when the expected transition to freezing rain should occur. However, areas near I-44 and west of Hwy 63 should see the greatest accumulation with a glaze up to .15″. The greatest threat for freezing rain should arrive after 8 PM and last into the night. Areas along and west of Hwy 65 may see some light snow track into the region this evening, before warmer air aloft causes a changeover to freezing rain.

EXTENDED: Freezing rain and snow will exit areas north of I-70 by the early afternoon, as temperatures climb into the 40s. More rain is expected into the overnight hours Thursday, as another upper level disturbance tracks through the region.. The rain ends Friday morning and temperatures will climb into the lower 50s in the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. Another round of rain moves in Friday night with on and off rain Saturday as temperatures stay above freezing, reaching the upper 50s Saturday afternoon. Sunday looks dry and mild with highs in the mid 50s. Next work week will start off dry and mild with highs remaining in the 50s. Rainfall amounts through the weekend will be the highest south of I-70, where spots could top out near 2-3 additional inches of rain. Areas north of I-70 will likely only see an additional inch of rain. Make sure to watch ABC 17 News for the newest forecast and check back here for updates.
