MODOT asks drivers to be vigilant on roads as more winter weather is predicted

UPDATE 5:58 P.M.: According to a tweet from MoDOT, Route O in Callaway County is closed west of Route D due to flooding.

ORIGINAL STORY: MODOT officials are asking drivers to take it slow and drive with caution with more winter weather in the forecast.

“Many times when we see crashes associated with winter weather, it’s because folks were driving too fast for the conditions at hand,” said MoDOT Central District Maintenance Engineer Jason Shafer. “We can’t stress enough how important it is to slow down and allow extra time if you have to travel. Ice is especially tricky and can cause hazardous conditions, so please use extra caution if you go out tonight.”

Officials ask drivers to check the department’s Traveler Information Map if they must go out.

“We’re all getting weary of the winter weather we’ve been experiencing for several weeks in a row now, but that’s no reason to let our guard down,” Shafer said. “It’s important for anyone traveling to be alert and extra careful.”
