JCPS Superintendent reacts to Florida shooting

Jefferson City Public Schools Superintendent Larry Linthacum reacted to the Florida high school shooting on Friday morning.

In a letter sent out to parents and staff, Linthacum said the shooting has been “gut wrenching.”

Linthacum said the safety of the children is the most important part of the school district’s job. He promised that the district is raising the bar in everything they do to become a premier school district.

The letter says, “As a district, we are assessing and evaluating opportunities we have to ensure a safe learning environment for all students.”

Linthacum said the district would be offering support for any students struggling with the recent events. He also said the teachers, counselors and administration would seek age-appropriate opportunities to discuss school safety.

Linthacum finishes the letter by saying, “We will continue to work ‘Stronger Together'” and asked the JCPS family to keep the Broward County community in their thoughts and prayers.
