Man charged with involuntary manslaughter after deadly November crash on I-70 Drive

A man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after a crash in November killed one person.

ABC 17 previously reported that two people with life-threatening injuries were taken to the hospital after a November crash in the 4600 block of I-70 Drive Southeast.

Police said they did not locate anyone else on the scene but later got an anonymous tip that William Lauer was the driver at the time of the crash.

According to the probable cause statement, Lauer told two people that he was the driver and he crashed because he fell asleep at the wheel.

Lauer denied any knowledge of the crash to officers.

Police said they searched the car and found a shotgun and several items that are consistent with methamphetamine use. Officers also found a brown wallet with Lauer’s information inside.

According to the probable cause statement, one of the victims in the crash later died due to her injuries.

Lauer was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death.

Lauer is currently in the Boone County Jail.
