Pettis County deputies investigate scam where suspects claim to be law enforcement
Pettis County deputies are investigating a scam where the caller claims to be law enforcement.
The Sheriff’s office has received numerous reports of residents getting unsolicited calls from a “deputy,” “sergeant,” or “lieutenant” telling them they have a warrant out for their arrest for failure to appear for jury duty.
Deputies said the caller is known to pressure residents for payment of the bond to avoid being arrested and taken to jail.
Officers said in some instances, names of actual law enforcement officials have been used to seem more legitimate.
Deputies warn that this is a scam and officers will never call about an arrest warrant, nor would they ever ask for payment over the phone, wired money, or pre-loaded cards for bond.
Officers ask anyone with questions regarding the scam call the office at (660) 827-0052.
