Web Extra: Mizzou football signs 25 players for 2018 recruiting class
Barry Odom and the Mizzou football team signed 25 players for the 2018 recruiting class by adding six today on National Signing Day.
The Tigers signed 19 players during the early signing period bringing their total to 25 today.
EMCC JUCO quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. highlights the list of players signing today. Scott is the only quarterback of the class and won a national championship in junior college. He is 5’11” and previously was committed to LSU before eventually choosing Mizzou.
“He has the chance to be something really special,” Odom said.
Mizzou also added a pair of offensive lineman including Bobby Lawrence from St. Joseph, MO who is 6’8″ 300 pounds.
“Size is never a bad thing,” Mizzou offensive line coach Brad Davis joked.
Lawrence is one of five in-state recruits signed by the Tigers including Daniel Parker, Dominic Gicinto, Harry Ballard III and Antar Thompson. The Tigers missed out on key players in a talented class of the state of Missouri including four-star recruits Trevor Trout, Kamryn Babb and Michael Thompson who chose Oklahoma today.
Odom said he is happy with the five the Tigers got but added there is always room for improvement. Odom said focusing nationally will also be a large emphasis going forward. The Tigers signed 20 recruits outside of the state of Missouri including nine from Texas.
Mizzou offensive coordinator Derek Dooley deflected to point out the need to focus on nearby states and not only the state of Missouri. Dooley said all the best teams start in state and recruit well within six hours of the school.
Odom and the Tigers signed 19 players during the early signing period, which is the first year the NCAA has had the measure in place. Odom said the emphasis of building relationships earlier is a big lesson he takes from the change.
According to Rivals.com, the Tigers signed two four-star recruits (Daniel Parker and Chad Bailey), 17 three-star recruits and six two-star recruits.
