CATSO meets Wednesday to cut number of traffic deaths

Columbia Area Transportation Study Organization (CATSO) met Wednesday to discuss cutting the number of traffic deaths in half by 2020.

This goal works into the City’s Vision Zero Plan that was adopted in 2017.

City of Columbia transportation planner Leah Christian tells ABC 17 that timing is everything.

“It’s good timing because the city in 2017 adopted a vision zero plan with the goal of zero traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2030,” Christian said.

CATSO met so that local leaders will come up with a set of safety goals rather than being forced to adopt what the state would decide.
