Columbia police arrest man accused of kidnapping, domestic assault

UPDATE 2/6: Burmeister has been charged with domestic assault and kidnapping.

According to the probable cause statement, Burmeister has access to knives and firearms he also has threatened self harm.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police arrested Alexander Burmeister after he was accused of assaulting a woman.

Police said Burmeister prevented the female victim from leaving his bedroom. The victim said Burmeister grabbed her by the neck and held her on the bed, when she attempted to leave multiple times.

Burmeister was also accused of covering the victim’s mouth with his hand to muffle the victim’s attempts to call for help.

The woman was eventually able to exit the room and the house. She reported shortness of breath as a result of being held down by her neck and officers saw bruising on the victim’s thigh and knee.

Burmeister faces possible charges of kidnapping and domestic assault.
