Columbia police arrest man accused of assaulting woman with a child in her arms

Columbia police arrested Darius Hicks on Sunday when officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Maple Grove Way in reference to a domestic disturbance.

Police said Hicks and the female victim were engaged in a verbal altercation. During the incident, Hicks grabbed the victim from the rear, around her neck and threw her onto a couch.

Officers said the victim was holding a one-year-old when the incident happened.

Hicks was also accused of raising a fist as if he was going to punch her.

Hicks faces possible charges for domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
