Cold with snow showers into Monday evening

MONDAY: It’s been a chilly start to the workweek across Mid-Missouri and temperatures this afternoon will continue to reflect that. Despite the southerly winds that are occurring, the light snow pack we have in place we’ll only warm our temperatures into the upper 20s to near 30 degrees across most of Mid-Missouri. We’ll see increasing cloud cover as low pressure passes to our north bringing snow to the Missouri/Iowa border. By 3 PM, areas could see light snowfall north of I-70 bringing a up to 1″ of snowfall accumulation. From Macon, to Moberly, and Paris we could see close to 2″ accumulate by 8 PM this evening. Winds will be gusty at times so you’ll need your coat on your way home Monday evening.

TONIGHT : Any snow will come to an end as we head into the late evening hours, with the skies remaining partly cloudy. Temperatures will once more be chilly, as we’ll see lows bottom out near 15 degrees overnight Winds out of the north up to 0 mph will drop wind chills near 0 for the morning commute.

EXTENDED: We have increasing confidence that Tuesday will likely be the first widespread accumulating snow across Mid-Missouri. Snow showers will spread from west to east beginning Tuesday afternoon and continuing into the evening commute home. We could see a few bands of heavy snowfall through the overnight hours, but snow will begin to exit by Wednesday morning. Amounts will likely be adjusted, as the system draws closer to Mid-Missouri and more data continues to flow in. Snowfall amounts right now continue to suggest that we’ll see anywhere from 1-4 inches of snow. The heaviest snow will likely set up near the I-70 corridor, with lighter amounts the further north and south you go. Isolated spots near I-44 could also see some freezing rain at the onset of the event, but amounts look to be less than .01″. The system will quickly exit by Wednesday morning, but some travel impacts are expected. As always, we will continue to track this storm as it develops and provide you with the latest forecast updates. Skies will clear by Wednesday as high temperatures remain below average in the low 30s. By the end of the work week temperatures will rise back into the 40s, but another cool down is in store for your weekend, also bringing us a slight chance for some active weather.
