The ARC receives new security cameras
A well known health club and fitness center in Columbia is getting $35,000 worth of new security cameras Friday.
The ARC had ten thefts in 2017, causing the center to move forward with new security system installation.
Susan Dunham, a Columbia resident tells ABC 17 she is pleased with the recent changes.
“I’m very happy. I think this is… you know we had some problems here with cars being broken into and other situations like that, so I think this will prevent it. We’ll all be happier,” Dunham said.
Parks and Recreation Director Mike Griggs and Service Manager Gabe Huffington told ABC 17 News the 2017 break-ins consisted of people not locking their doors, leaving their windows down and having items in plain view.
“Even though we have security cameras, surveillance on the parking lot now, we always encourage people to make sure you lock your doors. Don’t leave belongings out on a front seat or on a counsel that an individuals that may be walking by could see, so cover up those belongings or bring them in. Lock them in a locker at the ARC. Take care of your possessions,” Huffington said.
Huffington said the security cameras should be installed by the end of next week and there will also be increased patrols around the parking lot of the ARC.
