Rep. Hartzler in Virginia train crash, reports one killed

UPDATE 12:15 pm: Hartzler tweeted, “They backed up train a little ways after decoupling engine and just took a couple people with minor injuries off train for medical attention.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Representative Vicky Hartzler was in the train that collided with a truck on Wednesday morning in Virginia

ABC 17 previously reported the Amtrak train left from Union Station in Washington earlier Wednesday, and was carrying members of Congress, as well as their spouses, some family members and aides to the lawmakers.

Republican members of Congress were on their way for a retreat at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, starting Wednesday and ending Friday. Vice President Mike Pence, who was not on the train, is scheduled to speak to members later Wednesday and President Donald Trump is scheduled to address the event tomorrow.

Hartlzer tweeted, “I am in train that collided with a trash truck. I am okay. Getting word 3 people were in truck: one person died. Another life flighted. Third walked away. Please keep all in your prayers.”
