Police arrest Morgan County student accused of making threats to harm kids at school

Stover police arrested Matthew Underwood,19, on Monday after officers were made aware of possible threats against students in Morgan County.

According to the probable cause statement, Underwood made threats to harm himself and made threats to kids at school that he was in possession of a possible weapon.

Officers said when they made contact with Underwood, he had two knives and was combative.

Underwood admitted to police that he had researched school shootings and was considering going to the Stover School and shooting kids and teachers.

The superintendent for the Morgan County R-1 School District, Matt Unger, said student safety was his number one priority and he was grateful for the relationship the district had with law enforcement officers.

Unger said the district would be investigating the incident and conducting their own investigation.
