Central Dairy accidentally releases thousands of gallons of milk from storage tank
A Central Dairy spokesperson announced on Monday that the company accidentally released 3,000 gallons of milk from a storage tank on Friday.
The spokesperson said only 500 gallons made it into a storm drain that flowed into Wears Creek. The remaining 2,500 gallons went into a sanitary sewer.
Company officials said they hired an environmental contractor to conduct a cleanup which included an initial pumping of milk-contaminated water from the creek.
The spokesperson said after the cleanup, the water clarity at Wears Creek was good and there is no environmental concern.
