Greitens to release recommendations for budget Monday
Gov. Eric Greitens will present his recommendations for the fiscal year 2019 budget on Monday, according to a statement from his press secretary.
Following the presentation at 4 p.m. will be a press conference, but it’s not clear if the governor will take questions at that time. The statement issued by the governor’s office says the conference will feature Budget Director Dan Haug, with no information listed on the governor’s availability.
Gov. Greitens has not appeared publicly since being accused of committing sexual blackmail before running for office. Over the weekend, Greitens said to a St. Louis TV station as well as the Associated Press that the blackmail allegations are false and that he has no plans to leave office.
According to Rep. Scott Fitzpatrick, who chairs the House Budget Committee, Monday is the final day Greitens has to submit his recommendations before falling off their schedule.
Multiple state lawmakers are concerned the accusations and ongoing investigation will slow progress on legislation in the Capitol. Some have even called on Greitens to resign.
