Phelps County resident claims self-defense after deadly shooting

Phelps County deputies are investigating a shooting that left one man dead.

Deputies said on Tuesday, officers responded ot the 1000 block of County Road 2080 for reports of a shooting.

Officers said a man, William Dale, was shot in the upper torso by a resident of the house. Dale was later pronounced dead on scene.

The resident told deputies that Dale unlawfully entered the house and assaulted a man. The resident said they feared for their life and used lethal force.

An autopsy was performed on Dale on Thursday and the cause of death was determined to be a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The death investigation is on-going.
