Students picked up late after two Montgomery County R-II buses break down

At least one Mid-Missouri school district had an issue with bus routes Wednesday.

Montgomery County R-II Superintendent Michael Gray confirms two buses broke down on their usual routes Wednesday morning. Gray says Schwartz Bus Service sent other buses to pick up those students, causing a delay in pick up times. Gray says the latest bus got to school by 8:25am.

Gray says a message was sent to all parents notifying them of the issue, even though not all buses were impacted. Gray says the staff members who sent the alert did not realize they could filter who it goes to by specific bus numbers.

At least one parent reached out to ABC 17 News frustrated by the confusion. She says the alert did not specify which buses were running late and says her kids waited in the bitter cold for nearly 30 minutes before she had them come back indoors.

The district says it is waiting to hear back from Schwartz Bus Service, out of Jonesburg, about what caused the busses to break down. He said it likely was related to cold temperatures.
