Republican lawmakers call for Greitens resignation

UPDATE: Multiple Republican legislators have openly called on Governor Greitens to resign from office.

Representatives Nate Walker, Marsha Haefner, Kathie Conway and Steve Cookson said the scandal surrounding the Governor is distracting lawmakers from the current legislative session.

“We’re not getting anything done. The House has set aside its ethics reform package because of this dark cloud hanging over it,” said Republican Senator Rob Schaaf, who also tweeted after the allegations were first reported. “They don’t want to try to past ethics reform when the leader of our state is being so unethical.”

On Tuesday Greitens posted on his Facebook page saying he is ready to go “back to work,” meaning he will not answer the call to resign.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Haefner said, “When the Governor of Missouri cheats, then allegations of victimizing his mistress, blackmail, bribes and his taxpayer funded employee involves herself in questioning the attorney for the accuser follow, it becomes a state matter.”

Haefner believes the governor is no longer fit to hold Missouri’s highest office.

The representative also believes Greitens no longer has the trust and support of many in the legislature.

Haefner ended her statement by saying, “As a public servant it’s my duty to ask for Governor Greitens to resigns immediately and allow Missouri to move on, move forward and get back to work.”
