BREAKING: Arrest made in connection to double shooting, homicide at Waffle House
UPDATE 1/8: Freelon has been charged with tampering with physical evidence in felony prosecution.
ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police arrested a man Friday evening in connection to a shooting that left a man dead New Year’s Day.
Police said they arrested Jaylon Darnell Freelon, 20, of Columbia on a felony charge of tampering with physical evidence, after serving a warrant for his arrest around 10:40 p.m. in the 5400 block of Baseline Place.
Columbia Police officers responded to the Waffle House located at 904 Vandiver Drive at 1:49 a.m. New Year’s Day after receiving reports of a disturbance. As officers were arriving, Boone County Joint Communication officials advised officers that victims with gunshot wounds had arrived at a local hospital by personal vehicles, according to police.
Police said through the investigation, detectives found that Freelon removed a gun from the scene before officers arrived. They said the gun was displayed during an altercation that happened at the Waffle House. Police requested a warrant for Freelon to be taken into custody.
Freelon was arrested on a felony charge of tampering with physical evidence and given a cash only bond of $100,000.
