Jefferson City police issue findings of impaired driving campaign

The Jefferson City Police Department released their findings on Friday after officers participated in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Police said the campaign began on Dec. 15 and went through Jan. 1. During the period of time, officers made a total of 419 citations. Of those citations, police issued five for driving while intoxicated.

Officers said driving while intoxicated remains one of the leading causes of fatal car crashes in Missouri. During the holiday counting period, seven people were killed and 14 were seriously injured in crashes involving at least one impaired driver.

Police also issued the following citations:

-8 for following too close

-3 stop sign violations

-13 signal light violations

-14 fail to yield the right of way violations

-9 careless and imprudent violations

-63 for speeding

-31 for adult seat belt violations

-7 for child restraints

-46 driving while suspended/ driving with revoked

-12 driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license

-110 no insurance

-98 for other hazardous moving violations
