Chance of snow tonight, Wintry mix for Sunday

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures are cold again today, but it looks to be the last grasp of this extended arctic blast. You’ll need your jacket out the door this afternoon as temperatures will be in the teens. Winds will be light out of the northwest so wind chills should not be much of a factor.

TONIGHT: Lows will be in the in the single digits tonight with clouds beginning to build as another clipper system approaches from the northwest. We have the chance at some flurries and snow showers mainly on the northeastern portions of our viewing area. Accumulations look to be light, with a dusting to nearing an inch as you get closer to the Missouri/Illinois border.

EXTENDED: It will continue to remain on the cold side into Friday, but we do begin to see a warming trend. Friday’s highs will reach the lower 20s. Warmer air finally arrives as we head into the weekend but Saturday will still be quite chilly with highs approaching the freezing mark. Areas west of HWY 63 look to hold the best chance for above freezing temperatures on Saturday. Southerly winds will boost temperatures into the lower 40s Sunday across all of mid-Mo. with this warm up, we will see an increasing rain chance as early as Sunday morning. As the rain is expected to arrive temperatures will be flirting with the freezing mark. For the start of the day any precipitation will likely fall as rain, but surface temperatures will still be below freezing due to the consistent hard freeze for the last 2 weeks. This is when we could expect some freezing rain with impacts to the roadways. Through the afternoon on Sunday temperatures will rise into the 40s and it will turn to an all rain event as the system pushes east. Early next week shows another cool down with highs in the 30s on Monday and dropping temperatures through mid-week. Watch ABC17 news for the newest forecast and check back here for updates.
