Hazmat team called to Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center after staff finds powdery substance

The Columbia Fire Department’s hazmat team was called to the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center on Wednesday morning for reports of a suspicious substance.

The Fulton Fire Department said the Department of Corrections’ staff opened a package and found a white, powdery substance inside.

Fulton firefighters were called to the scene and then requested assistance from the Columbia hazmat team.

Two hazmat technicians entered the center, sampled the product and determined it to be nonhazardous.

The substance was later determined to be a vitamin supplement and is currently in possession of the Callaway County Department of Corrections.

The Fulton Fire Department said the procedure went according to plan.
