Troopers report five deaths due to crashes during Christmas holiday counting period
Troopers reported five people died in traffic crashes over the Christmas holiday counting period.
The counting period began on Friday at 6 p.m. and ended on Monday.
Officers investigated 491 traffic crashes which included 125 injuries and four of the five fatalities.
Troopers also said they arrested 91 people for driving while impaired and made 49 drug arrests over the holiday weekend.
Three of the fatalities happened during a crash in Carroll County on Saturday when a car ran off the roadway, struck an embankment, struck a vehicle and overturned.
Another fatality crash happened when a car slid on the icy roadway before striking the guardrail.
During 2016’s Christmas holiday counting period, troopers investigated 260 traffic crashes, which included 86 injuries and five fatalities.
