Two Jefferson City residents arrested after shooting on East Capitol Ave., one in critical condition

UPDATE, 3:30 p.m.: McKensi Henderson and Davone Murphy have been charged in connection with the shooting in Jefferson City.

According to court documents, witnesses described a black vehicle chasing another vehicle in the 600 block of Capitol Avenue and that someone in the black vehicle was firing shots.

Witnesses helped find the victim vehicle and when police questioned the victims, they said they didn’t know who was shooting at them.

A few hours later, around 4 a.m., a man who lived in an apartment at 525 Capitol Avenue called 911 to report that someone had been shot in the head. Neighbors said the victim was his girlfriend. She was taken to the hospital.

Police said the victim’s bed was right next to the window that had been shot and they found .22 caliber shell casings in the area.

Police said they got information that Murphy drove a car similar to the suspect vehicle description. They found Murphy at Henderson’s house and she consented to a search. Police found .22 caliber ammunition that was the same brand as the shell casings.

According to a probable cause statement, both were brought in for questioning and Murphy confessed to shooting at another car with a .22 caliber handgun. He said the car was Henderson’s and that she was driving at the time of the shooting.

Henderson denied involvement in the incident but she has been charged with aiding or abetting a person shooting a firearm at a motor vehicle.

Murphy is being charged with assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

Both are being held without bond.

ORIGINAL STORY: Jefferson City Police investigated a shots fired incident that took place in the 600 block of East Capitol Avenue at just after 10 p.m. on Saturday.

According to the official release, there were no reports of any damage or any victims, but there was information that there were two vehicles allegedly involved in the incident. Police found shell casings at the scene.

Early Sunday morning, police were called to the 500 block of East Capitol for a medical emergency. The victim, a 47 year-old woman from Jefferson City, suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

She was eventually taken to a medical facility in Columbia and is in critical condition.

Detectives interviewed 18 year old Davone Murphy from Jefferson City, who admitted to firing the shots.

Murphy was arrested on charges of first degree assault, armed criminal action and discharging a weapon from a motor vehicle.

Police also interviewed and arrested McKensi Henderson, a 20 year old from Jefferson City, for her alleged involvement with the crime.

Murphy is being held in the Cole County Jail pending charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
