Cloudy and cool, with increasing rain through the night

TONIGHT: It will be a cool and cloudy night across Mid-Missouri, as moisture begins to stream into the region out of the southwest. This moisture will bring us some much needed rain across the area, despite the low amounts expected. Due to the dry nature of the atmosphere, we’ll see the onset of drizzle after midnight, with rain likely as we head into Sunday morning. The atmosphere is very dry, so it’ll take some time to saturate the column from the top down. Temperatures will bottom out near 40 degrees, with winds out of the south up to 10 mph.

SUNDAY: Grab that umbrella as you head out the door Sunday morning, as rain will be increasing from the southwest. It’s likely that all of Mid-Missouri will see light stratiform rain falling through the day. The rain should come to an end as we head into the afternoon, with the overcast skies sticking around. Rainfall amounts will range anywhere from trace amounts north of I-70 to a quarter inch south. This is certainly not enough to alleviate our drought but will help settle the dust a bit. Sunday will be slightly cooler, with highs climbing into the upper 40s and winds out of the southwest up to 12 mph.

EXTENDED: Early next week temperatures will level out with highs in the 50s as a milder weather pattern develops and continues through Thursday. Unfortunately, this will also mean a return to a dry pattern across Mid-Missouri. A pattern which will only allow the drought conditions to worsen. There is signs though as we head into the coming days that we’ll finally tap into more moisture, which will help the very dry conditions. A cold front moving through Thursday night will bring a slight chance of rain and snow and drop temperatures considerably for Friday with highs only in the 30s to end the work week.
