Troopers arrest man accused of leaving motorcycle crash

A Kansas man has been charged with a DWI, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest after a motorcycle collision Sunday.

According to the probable cause statement, troopers responded to eastbound I-70 at the 121 exit ramp for reports of a crash. Officers said they observed a motorcycle standing upright near the right shoulder of the exit ramp.

Troopers said the motorcycle caused moderate damage to the guardrail.

Several first responders searched the area for the driver but could not find one until a motorist stopped by the crash and informed troopers that a man was walking west on the eastbound shoulder with a limp.

Troopers said when they made contact with the man, they identified him as Michael Palma.

Officers said they asked Palma to get in their patrol vehicles but he refused.

Palma told troopers that he was attacked at a gas station and his motorcycle was stolen. Troopers said they noticed Palma’s speech to be slurred and he seemed to be confused.

Officers said when they attempted to arrest Palma, he tensed up and started to spin around.

According to the probable cause statement, officers obtained a blood sample from Palma, which was sent off to be tested.
