Man charged with multiple drug offenses after troopers find over 24 pounds of marijuana

A man has been charged with delivery of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and exceeding the posted speed limit.

According to the probable cause statement, troopers conducted a traffic stop on a pickup traveling 76 mph when the posted speed limit was 70 mph.

Troopers said when they made contact with Daniel Mercurio, officers noted he appeared nervous.

Officers said Mercurio provided implausible travel plans that were not consistent and his nervousness did not subside.

When troopers asked to search Mercurio’s vehicle he did not allow it. Officers said they were attempting to contact a K9 unit when Mercurio admitted to possessing a large quantity of marijuana.

Troopers said they searched the car and found a black duffel bag with 24.3 pounds of marijuana.
