Tracking scattered storms tonight, flooding potential into Thursday morning

TONIGHT: Scattered storms with heavy rain becoming more widespread overnight. A Flood Watch is in effect through Thursday morning. 2-4" of rain will be possible somewhere along the I-70 corridor, with lows hovering in the upper 60s to around 70.

TOMORROW: Soggy to start the day with lingering showers pressing south with a cold front by midday. Highs in the lower 80s.

EXTENDED: Scattered showers and rumbles of thunder have kept temperatures cooler than average across Mid-Missouri, and the window for severe weather continues to close as it's been hard to destabilize with cloud cover lingering into late afternoon. Tonight, low level winds increase and pull in more moisture to the region right along the cold front. With winds shifting parallel to the front, we may end up with training storms bringing a few inches of rain over the same areas, increasing the flooding potential overnight. A Flood Watch is in effect area wide through Thursday morning as a swath of 2-4" of rain is possible across a section of Mid-Missouri, likely along or north of the I-70 corridor depending on where the front ends up. Showers and storms continue to drift south by early Thursday afternoon with the front settling to our south. We may see a resurgence of storms Thursday and Friday nights as the front tries to lift back north across the area and low level winds bring in moisture each night along the boundary. Flooding looks like less of a risk after early Thursday. Upper high pressure begins to build west as the jet stream lifts back north over the weekend. Saturday will be hot and humid with highs near 90, but Sunday through Tuesday are looking intensely hot with highs in the low 90s and a heat index between 100-105.
