Police respond to reports of suspect with a gun at Regal Cinemas, no suspect located
UPDATE 11/29: Columbia police said that they were advised that the subject was flagging down cars with a handgun.
Officers said the subject was telling people he needed to go to the hospital because he was losing his mind.
Police describe the man as a person with olive skin, approximately 6′ 0″, brown hair and glasses. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt, blue jeans and Adidas shoes.
UPDATE: A lieutenant with the Columbia Police Department told ABC 17 News officers responded to two reports of a man with a gun at Regal Cinemas Tuesday night.
The first call was about a man with a gun outside the theater, but no one was located.
The second call came about an hour later, but this time, the caller said a man had a gun inside the theater complex off Goodwin Pointe Drive.
It’s unclear if the calls were related or if they were about the same suspicious person.
After the second call, officers swept the theaters, stopped the movies playing and told moviegoers to get out of the theater.
Officers continued to search the area throughout the night. As of 11:50 p.m., they had not found any suspects involved with the calls.
ORIGINAL STORY, 10:50 p.m.: Right now, multiple police officers are on the scene at a Columbia theater.
Witnesses claim they were watching a movie at Regal Cinemas off Goodwin Pointe Drive when officers stopped the movie and told them to leave.
At least seven police cars are spread across the area and officers can be seen going in and out of the building.
ABC 17 News saw one officer had a rifle.
