Columbia police arrest man accused of stealing tools, trespassing on private property

Columbia police arrested Mustafa President on Tuesday afternoon after officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Squirrel Drive in reference to a trespasser.

A man told police he was checking on his vacant property and saw President sleeping on a couch in the house.

Police said officers arrested President and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia on him.

Officers said they also found a screwdriver on President. When police were investigating the house, they found a toolbox containing several hand tools, and one of the tools matched the screwdriver found on President.

Police said they determined the tools matched tools that had previously been reported stolen from a towing company’s secure lot.

President faces possible charges of stealing, trespassing, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
