Man charged with fleeing arrest after taking officers on car chase with speeds in excess 130 mph
Moniteau County deputies arrested Christopher O’Dell on Sunday after O’Dell failed to stop for officers in Tipton.
According to the probable cause statement, O’Dell had a stop and hold issued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol because he was believed to have an unknown amount of methamphetamine in his possession.
Deputies said when they attempted to pull O’Dell over on Briar Lane, he accelerated at a high rate of speed.
Deputies said during the chase, O’Dell failed to stop at stop signs, failed to stop for red traffic signals and traveled at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
O’Dell continued on westbound Highway 50, increasing his speed to exceed 120 mph, according to deputies. He then began over-taking several vehicles by passing on double yellow lines, traveling westbound in the eastbound lane, cresting hills on the opposite side of the roadway, and forcing other vehicles to swerve to avoid head-on collisions, deputies said.
Officers said O’Dell was risking the lives of everyone on the roadway.
O’Dell continued on Highway 50, reaching speeds of over 130 mph, deputies said.
O’Dell then turned on to Potter’s Ford Road, a gravel road, with speeds in excess of 70 mph, according to deputies.
Deputies said the chase ended on Wolf Lane when O’Dell nearly struck another patrol vehicle head-on, losing control and striking a utility police.
O’Dell began to run and a foot pursuit began. Deputies said a taser had to be deployed in order to stop him.
Deputies said they found marijuana on O’Dell.
O’Dell told officers he had run because he was scared. He began weeping, apologizing and said, “I’m glad I didn’t kill anyone.”
O’Dell was charged with Resisting Arrest/Detention/Stop By Fleeing.
