No one injured after fire on Cowan Road in Boone County

Multiple emergency units were on scene of a structure fire on South Cowan Rd. in Boone County Monday afternoon.

At one point, the fire’s thick black smoke could be seen for miles, including as far as the 63/70 connector.

Martina Pounds with the Boone County Fire Protection District said that a person inside of the home called in the fire after seeing smoke coming from the house.

Asst. chief Josh Creamer said when the resident opened her garage door, she saw thick black smoke. She immediately closed it and evacuated.

The blaze spread to the attic before fire crews arrived on scene.

“When we arrived, we had fire pushing out of the back of the structure,” said Creamer. “Crews were able to make a quick attack and knock down the bulk of the fire.”

Boone County fire cut into the garage with a saw to put the fire out. The crew continued to check for possible hot spots on the structure into the night.

No one was injured, but the majority of contents in the garage were a total loss.
