One person shot during attempted home invasion

UPDATE: 8:45 a.m.: A man is recovering after being shot during an attempted home invasion early Saturday morning, Columbia police said.

Officers were called to the 500 block of Hickman Avenue at 5:55 a.m. for an armed home invasion, police said.

The investigation showed at least one person tried to break in, didn’t get into the house and began firing through an opening in the door.

The man inside was hit by a bullet and the shooter or shooters ran from the area before police arrived.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

ORIGINAL STORY: Columbia police are investigating an armed home invasion in the 500 block of Hickman Avenue.

The home invasion happened shortly before 6 a.m.

Officers on scene told ABC 17 News the victim was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

ABC 17 crews saw officers searching in the backyard area and taking photos around the home.

Crews also saw officers removing what appeared to be bullets from the outside wall of the home.

It’s not clear if anything was stolen from the home. Officers also could not confirm if there was more than one suspect.
