One arrest made out of several separate gun-related incidents in Columbia
The arrest of Davion Manns, 17, of Columbia, was the only arrest made by authorities out of several active investigations for gun-related incidents in Columbia since Oct. 17.
The incident Manns was arrested for was the most recent shooting to occur in the city.
According to Columbia police press releases from the past two years, the month of October, which is the same month Mizzou’s homecoming takes place, has been a busy month for gun-related incidents.
In both 2015 and 2016, police investigated about 11 gun-related incidents– shootings, armed robberies or home invasions.
With regard to the gun-related incidents that have occurred within the past six days, Glenn Cobbins Sr., a neighborhood outreach specialist for the city, said police are doing their job.
Cobbins said the community needs to step up and give children other activities to be involved in so they don’t want to get into trouble.
Cobbins also said the shootings will start deterring people from coming to Columbia. He said parents will start to worry that their children at the university will get injured during a shooting.
