Woman charged with burglary, accused of taking Fitbits from a Sedalia Kohls.

Melissa Schaefer was charged with burglary and stealing after officers responded to a Sedalia Kohls for reports of theft.

Officers said when they arrived on scene they talked with a witness who saw a man and a woman come into the store and go to electronics.

The witness saw the woman take several Fitbits and go into a changing room while the man left the store, got into his car and waited at the entrance of the store, police said.

The witness said they saw the woman walk out of the store and hop into the car with the man, police said.

The witness was able to get the license plate of the vehicle and officers were able to determine Schaefer’s identity.

According to the probable cause statement, both Schaefer and the man had previously gone to a Kohls in Indiana, taken Fitbits and left the store in the same car.

A few days after the initial incident, officers were made aware that Schaefer had been caught stealing Fitbits from another Kohls in the St. Peter’s area.

According to Schaefer’s criminal history, she has been convicted of stealing in the past.

According to public jail records, Schaefer is currently in the St. Louis County Jail.
