Howard County man charged after shooting man in back

A man from Armstrong has been charged with felony first degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a firearm after shooting a man in the back on Saturday.

Howard Country deputies were called to Anthony Adams’ house at 339 State Route JJ on Saturday for a shooting. The victim reported that he tried to intervene in a physical altercation between hiw girlfriend, Adams and Adams’ wife.

The victim said that Adams started punching his girlfriend in the face outside of the house, and that’s when he tried to intervene. Adams then went into his house and came back outside with a shotgun. Adams allegedly shot the victim in the back while he was running away from the house.

The victim’s girlfriend said that she was in a fight with Adams’ wife when Adams started punching her int he head. She said she saw Adams rack a shell in the chamber of a gun and point it at the victim.

Adams said that he did shoot the victim, but said it was accidental. Adams said he was trying to break up a fight between the victim’s girlfriend and his wife, and that he was trying to scare the victim. Adams also admitted being intoxicated.
