Columbia police arrest man accused of leaving the scene of a car accident

Columbia police arrested Diego Lux early Saturday morning after they were dispatched to leaving the scene of accident in the 1000 block of Garth Avenue.

Police said the accident occurred and the driver of a black 2007 Saturn left the scene.

A witness advised officers the vehicle ran off the road and struck a sign, and continued to drive into a driveway in the 1000 block of Garth.

The witness told police they had been watching the car and the driver was still in the vehicle.

Police were able to contact Lux, and when they did they could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person.

Lux was arrested and faces possible charges of driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and operating a motor vehicle ina careless and imprudent manner.
