Funeral set for Harrisburg teacher killed in crash

Harrisburg R-VIII superintendent Steve Combs on Saturday announced the funeral arrangements for teacher and coach Brian Simpson, who was killed in a crash earlier this week.

Simpson’s funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Crossing Church in Columbia. The funeral will be open to the public.

The school district is dismissing students and staff at 11 a.m. Tuesday for those who want to attend.

“I would like to commend everyone in our community for coming together in such a difficult time,” Combs said in a Facebook post Saturday. “It is amazing to see all the love and support being shared throughout our community. Please continue to keep the Simpson family, as well as our cross country girls involved in the accident, in your thoughts and prayers.”

As of Friday evening, two of the girls were still in the hospital, but their conditions were improving. Two others have been released from the hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bradey Simpson Scholarship Fund. Checks can be mailed to to the Harrisburg Administration Office.
