One person shot on Business Loop, CPD investigating

UPDATE 9:36 P.M.: Police said the suspect is a minor. Witnesses provided a description that led officers to the suspect. A brief foot chase happened before the juvenile was taken into custody.

Police also recovered a handgun in the area that had been reported stolen. The department did not say whether or not the gun found was the one used in the incident.

UPDATE 6:04 P.M.: Shell casings were found in the McDonald’s parking lot on Business Loop, and one person is in custody.

A sergeant with the Columbia Police Department did not say what reason they took the person into custody. He said the department would send a press release about the incident, including the possible charges the person faces.

The sergeant told ABC 17 News they were still looking for a possible victim.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Columbia Police Department is investigating after a shooting on the Business Loop near Providence Road.

Police have confirmed that one person has been shot, but they haven’t confirmed when the shooting happened.
