Jefferson City considering electric buses

Jefferson City employees are requesting an electric-powered demonstration bus from a manufacturer for evaluation purposes, transit director Mark Mehmert confirmed on Wednesday.

Mehmert said on Oct. 17 there will be a public meeting regarding recommendations for Jefferson City’s transit system.

The recommendations come from the Lochmueller Group, the consultants on the project, after months of work and extensive public meetings, said Mehmert.

“Technology is changing in the transit industry, and we are in the beginning stages of our due diligence for potential replacement buses,” Mehmert said. “Some of our buses are nearing the end of their useful life.”

The city will consider all technologies for replacing their buses and part of this is looking into electric technology firsthand.
