City Council to discuss Green Meadows and Forum intersection Tuesday

The Columbia City Council plans on holding a public hearing to discuss improvements to the intersection of Green Meadows road and Forum boulevard.

There are five proposed plans attached to the agenda for Tuesday, but the proposed traffic circle has drawn the most reactions from the public. The city has responded to some concerns voiced by the public, defending the idea of a traffic circle helping with backups.

Some of the concerns raised by the public say that a roundabout would be unsafe for pedestrians and bicyclists. One said that the improvement project was not necessary. The city refuted those concerns, saying a roundabout would be safe for non-vehicle traffic.

“The intersection warrants a roundabout or a traffic signal control,” the city said in response to voiced concerns over adding a roundabout. “The average overall delay time for the entire intersection during the peak time was 46 seconds per vehicle.”

The city also said an improvement project on Nifong boulevard is scheduled for 2020
