Moberly man arrested on suspicion of throwing possible explosive devices over Highway 63 overpass

Reports of a man throwing items over the overpass bridge of Route M and Highway 63 Saturday resulted in the arrest of a suspect after a scuffle with a police officer.

Police said when an officer arrived, a 49-year-old Moberly man was found, along with items consistent with being used as explosive devices.

The officer attempted to take the man into custody, but he started to fight the officer, police said.

Police said a bystander helped the officer take the man into custody without further incident.

An ambulance later transported the man to Moberly Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries and then released.

The officer also was taken to the medical center for treatment of minor injuries and later released.

The man was taken to the Randolph County Justice Center, where he was being held for possibly charges of unlawful sale, possession and transfer of a weapon, unlawful possession of an explosive device, resisting arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer.

The Moberly Police Department thanked the bystander who helped the officer and the person who called to report the incident.
