UPDATE: 19-year-old shot on Claudell Lane

UPDATE 9:22 A.M.: According to an official press release, officers found a 19-year-old female victim with a non-life threatening injury.

According to reports, the victim was standing on the west side of a building in Columbia Square Townhomes with friends and family dancing and drinking when she heard what she thought was a firework, and realized she had been shot.

The release stated that the victim and witnesses did not see anything suspicious or hear anything suspicious prior to the noise.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Officers searched the area and did not find any shell casings or damage to any property. The investigation is ongoing.

People on Claudell Lane said Friday they think the townhomes have certain residents that are making the entire neighborhood unsafe. One resident said there are many children in the area who like to play outside and doesn’t want to see any of them get hurt by a stray bullet.

“It’s really scary for the families to live there, I think,” said one resident. “I’ve lived here four years and it wasn’t like this four years ago.”

Ale, who asked we don’t use her last name, lives just on the other side of the fence from the townhomes. She said Thursday morning’s shooting was too close for comfort.

“I don’t feel safe anymore,” she said. “It’s just getting closer and closer and I want to move.”

According to police dispatch records, police have responded to calls for service more than 290 times on Claudell Lane. There have only been 242 days of 2017.
